pizbicki
Last month, there was an NIH and Kennedy Center collaboration to bring in top scientists from the fields of music and neuroscience, music and medicine, and music therapy to discuss the gaps and struggles of each of these fields. http://www.musictherapy.org/nih_workshop_paves_way_for_music_therapy_research/ (There are videos of the workshop that have not yet been released to the public.) As a doctoral student in the field of music and neuroscience/medicine, I think the biggest worry for my future career is funding for research. Although there is evidence of its benefits in the clinic and a topic of interest to much of the public, federal funding is limited, and even private funding is scarce because music isn’t something that can be branded or marketed as easily as a drug or technology. Does the neuro community have any comments, suggestions, or ideas as to improvements that need to be made in the field?
