Astrocytes and cognition, hided by hundred years

During the past century we studied the neurons as the only cell in the CNS related to cognition, during all this time the astrocytes was hidden, silents, working. Right now, the astrocytes are viewed fundamental elements for wiring and neuronal function. The actual research suggests the existence of gliotransmitters which are modulating the entire functions of the brain including the cognition.
