Call for Papers (sorry for a short notice but this is the last call)
In honor of the SfN member, Walter J. Freeman III (January 30, 1927 – April 24, 2016)
Special Issue on Neurodynamics, Guest Editors: William Sulis & Irina Trofimova

Contributions are being sought for a special issue of Nonlinear Dynamics in Psychology and Life Sciences to celebrate the life and work of Walter J. Freeman III. Walter was a pre-eminent neuroscientist who almost single-handedly pioneered the application of nonlinear and chaotic methods, from analysis to modeling, to the study of neurodynamics. His work particularly focused on mesoscopic brain dynamics and its role underlying psychological states and processes. He carried out experimental EEG studies of populations of neurons, analyzed these using nonlinear methodologies and a variety of mathematical methods, returning again to the lab. His interests were wide-ranging, amounting to almost 500 papers and 6 books. Papers are invited which cover any area within the scope of his interests. Papers reporting on the development of new nonlinear methods of data analysis, novel applications of nonlinear methods to neurodynamics, whether in data analysis or modeling or new experimental results demonstrating the role of nonlinear or chaotic behavior in neurodynamics, are also welcome. Particular interest will be centered on mesoscopic brain dynamics, for example contingent, contextual or circular causality, sensation, perception, intention, meaning, information transfer and processing. Papers reviewing, criticizing, deconstructing or synthesizing the work of Walter Freeman are also welcome.

Abstracts are requested prior to submission in order to assist with the organization of the issue contents, and they are welcome any time before the paper submissions deadline, but preferably before Dec. 31, 2016. The usual guidelines for submissions to NDPLS apply. Please consult the journal’s purview and instructions for authors (www.societyforchaostheory.org/ndpls). The deadline for the completed submission is March 1, 2017. Abstracts and manuscripts must be submitted for consideration to the editors, William Sulis (sulisw@mcmaster.ca), Irina Trofimova (iratrofimov@gmail.com). All papers will be peer reviewed. Revisions and final edits need to be completed by July 1, 2017.
