Michael Oberdorfer
Nature reports the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) plans to replace the use of animals in research by emerging technologies involving alternative approaches. A number of nations are now pursuing the development of these technologies such as computational models and organs-on-a-chip as alternatives to the use of animals for toxicity tests and disease studies. Some researchers in India, while agreeing that the use of animals can be reduced, state that not all of these alternative approaches translate well to humans at this time. Similar reservations have been expressed by researchers in the United States. Your thoughts?
