NIH Director, Dr Francis Collins announced today the selection of Michael Chiang, M.D., Ph.D., as Director of The National Eye Institute. Preceding his appointment, Dr. Chiang has served as a professor of ophthalmology, clinical epidemiology and medical informatics at the Casey Eye Institute, of the Oregon Health and Science University, Portland, Oregon.

In his announcement Dr. Collins said: "Dr. Chiang brings extensive experience as a clinician, researcher and educator to NIH. His work in biomedical informatics and telehealth research are particularly important for the future of vision research,"
