SfN Reschedules Neuroscience 2020 Abstract Submission for August 10-19

Due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic developments and based on current information available from District of Columbia health authorities and from the D.C. Convention Center, Neuroscience 2020 abstract submission, currently scheduled for July 6-16, 2020, will be delayed to August 10-19, 2020.

In addition, opening of registration for Neuroscience 2020 will be delayed to August 12 for all eligible Bonus Day registrants and August 13 for all SfN members.

These decisions are being made with the foremost concern for the health and safety of SfN members and the neuroscience community. SfN remains committed to making the best decisions for both public health and for the field, and we continue to be guided by public health authorities and available data. We also recognize SfN members are facing significant challenges, including limited access to labs and travel restrictions.

We know this further delay is extremely inconvenient for SfN members and all others trying to make plans for Neuroscience 2020. We continue to discuss the situation daily, with knowledge that despite areas beginning to reopen, COVID-19 cases are rising in many places, with several states in the U.S. and some countries continuing to experience new peaks in daily infections. Additionally, we continue to monitor recommendations from the ReOpen D.C. Advisory Group. These recommendations are considered by D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser for each stage of D.C. reopening. As previously noted, the current recommendations contain four stages to a safe reopening, with stage four currently being the only stage that would allow for public gatherings of more than 250 people, and requiring a vaccine or therapeutic treatment. The mayor continues to indicate that she will monitor public health data to determine D.C.’s readiness to move through reopening stages.

We will continue to provide further updates and decisions to members, volunteer leaders, exhibitors, and the field as soon as they are available. We appreciate the need for people to make decisions and plans and are committed to keeping the SfN membership up to date.
