The Third International Symposium on Sigma-2 Receptors: Role in Health and Disease

Cognition Therapeutics sponsored a satellite symposium with a panel of expert speakers from the global sigma-2 community whose presentations aimed to advance our understanding of the molecular identity of the sigma-2 radioligand binding site, its protein interactions, the functional roles of the sigma-2 receptor in cellular and synaptic signaling and report clinical trial outcomes of a sigma-2 antagonist in Alzheimer’s disease patients. Speakers included Drs. Wayne Bowen of Brown University, Michael Cahill of Charles Sturt University, Timothy Kennedy of McGill University, Tara Spires-Jones of the University of Edinburgh, Stephen Martin of the University of Texas at Austin, Sonny Singh of the University of North Texas, Robert Mach and two of his colleagues, Aladdin Riad and Chenbo Zeng of the University of Pennsylvania, as well as Drs. Izzo and Catalano from Cognition Therapeutics.

This is an exceptional group of researchers and the discussion was extremely fruitful. Several abstracts were presented by these researchers at SFN2018 that disclosed major unpublished scientific information about molecular mechanisms and therapeutic clinical trial results of significance to the entire neuroscience community.
